Body Paragraphs 4 & 5

We are going to the computer lab tomorrow to type body paragraphs 3, 4 & 5. You also need an annotated works cited page for those paragraphs. Make sure you are prepared and will be able to get everything typed up tomorrow!

Body Paragraph 4: The Organization
This paragraph describes the organization you’ve chosen that is actively trying to stop the human rights abuse you’re studying.

Structure:
This paragraph should be almost all CDs. You need to describe the work the NGO is doing in your country to help end the abuse you’ve chosen.

Answer as many of these questions as possible. Lots of details!!! Text notes throughout! Think about organizing the information in a logical and clear way!

You need basic information on the following:
1. Who is the organization and where are they located? Where do they do their work (list all locations)?
2. When did they begin?
3. Why did they begin?
4. What are their main goals?
5. What do they do? What actions have they taken?
6. What are some of their successes?
7. What have been some of their struggles?

THE MAJORITY OF THIS PARAGRAPH SHOULD DISCUSS SPECIFICALLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING IN YOUR COUNTRY TO FIGHT THE ABUSE!

Body Paragraph 5: Evaluate the Organization’s Work

In this paragraph, it’s your job to evaluate whether the NGO’s work is making a difference or not. Be thoughtful!

Structure: This paragraph is more commentary than concrete details. You are evaluating the NGO based on what you know about the abuse, as well as the work of the NGO.

Address the following:
o TS: State whether you consider the NGO to be effective or not, and why.
o Provide CDs about the work your NGO is doing. Try not to be repetitive with the last paragraph.
o Focus on writing CMs about why the work is effective or not. For example, if your topic is access to water, look at whether the NGO is improving the quality of the water or providing water filtration systems.

Example: (this would be PART of your paragraph)
The Darfur Dream Team has been successful in providing money and supplies to needy school in the refugee camps, but could be doing more to help victims in Sudan itself. In 2009 / 2010 they program raised $345,000 for education in Dgabal Refugee Camp (“Refugee Camps”). There are 4,500 primary school age children in this particular camp (“Refugee Camps”), which means that each child is provided with enough funding to obtain the necessary materials to be successful in school.
