Now that you have extensively researched your sophomore exhibition topic, we want you to think about the following: How does a society heal? How do the abused parties forgive? What should be done to honor the victims? What is needed for the victims to move forward?
The toolbox for change project asks you to reflect on these questions and create a “toolbox” with elements that reflect your notion of change and healing as they relate to your sophomore exhibition topic.
Goal:
Create a three-dimensional “toolbox” that commemorates the abuse and offers tools to solve the problem.
Components:
Toolbox Vessel
It is a vessel that holds all your “tools.” It can be an actual box with a new design or decoration, a hollowed out old book, a soft-sided sewn object, a picture frame, a shadow box or something else that represents or relates to your topic.
Art Piece
You may choose at least one of the following: A found object, a sculpted or made object, a portrait, a collage, a reproduction of a work of art.
Written Piece
You may use a poem or song lyrics (published or your own), a letter or an excerpt from a short story.
Transitional Justice Tool
Include some representation of your transitional justice tool that you discussed in your essay. This can be literal or abstract.
Design and Organization
Your toolbox should reflect a clear and thorough vision of your ideas for healing and change.
